8/13 (Day 3)
Today after breakfast in
hotel, when I stepped out of the door in hotel, what I felt most impressive was
the cold weather, though the sun was shining. I felt excited for today’s trip
since we were going to visit wind farm at Osorio.
The wind farms are one of
the section of an intentional company called Elecnor. The company holds
different wind farms in different countries such as Canada, Spain and Brazil
and plans to operate in Australia. The wind farms in Osorio are able to produce
318 MW per year with the efficiency of 99%. The turbines have more advantages
than the conventional ones since they create less sound, operate more
efficiently and safely. In the control room, we can find out different
parameters including wind speed, direction, turbines speed.
We also saw beautiful
scenery in the field. 125 windmills lined up neatly and thousand of grazing
animals walked on the grass leisurely. It was really amazing to see that wind
electricity generation could be conducted without threatening the native
grazing function. What a harmonious energy! I believe wind energy could be a
feasible energy alternative!
After visiting the farm, we stopped by to
have lunch and tasted the delicious Brazilian barbeque. Then we went back to
Florianopolis and finally travel to a local shopping mall at night.
